THIS WEEKEND
PAC will be heading south to play a couple matches against Raleigh this Saturday. Look for details later this week.

FORMER GW PLAYER APPOINTED TO FEDERAL BENCH
Former George Washington Rugby Football Club scrumhalf Liam O\'Grady has been nominated to serve as a United States Magistrate Judge. GWRFC was one of two clubs that merged to form Potomac Athletic Club (PAC).

A panel of U.S. District Court judges selected O\'Grady to replace retiring magistrate judge Welton Curtis Sewell. O\'Grady was the top candidate out of five distinguished candidates submitted by the merit selection panel. O\'Grady is currently a partner in the Reston office of Finnegan Henderson Farabow Garrett & Dunner LLP where he has been involved in trying patent and trademark cases throughout the United States. Prior to joining Finnegan Henderson, O\'Grady was an assistant U.S. attorney in the Criminal Division in Alexandria, Va., for 12 years. Prior to his service as an AUSA, he was an assistant commonwealth attorney in Arlington County. O\'Grady is a graduate of George Mason University Law School and he is an associate professor at the George Washington University Graduate School of Forensic Science. Upon completion of the required background check, he will become the Alexandria Division\'s newest magistrate judge. Last month Liam was joined by many of his former mates for a celebratory gathering in Tyson\'s Corner.

REFEREES\' MEETINGS START THIS WEEK
The first meeting of the year of the Potomac Society of Rugby Football Referees will be next Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 7:30 PM at My Brother\'s Place (near downtown and Capitol Hill, close to Union Station and Judiciary Square metro, 237 2nd St NW, near Constitution and 2nd, (202) 347-1350, upstairs room. -- directions on the web at www.potomacrugbyreferees.com) Even though there is snow on the ground, it\'s time to start thinking about rugby! The need for referees grow in the spring - high school, tournaments, etc. It is a perfect time to start a new way of connecting to the game you love. The meetings will occur every two weeks.

Players are reminded attendance at the referees meetings count towards your club fundraising/service obligation. Ian Speight (IanSpeight@aol.com) is coordinating attendance this spring, please drop him a note if you are going to be there - and make sure you check-in when you go.

HIGH SCHOOL COACHES NEEDED
There are three high school rugby programs in the Linthicum, Md. area (near BWI airport): Apaches Boys High School program (parks and rec program),

Apaches Girls High School program (parks and rec program), Spalding Boys High School program (private school program), all in need of coaching. All three practice together each Monday and Wednesday, from 7 to 9 PM. They will each have separate schedules for the Spring season. Each has a head coach, but need some additional assistant coaches. Anyone interested is welcome to come and get involved. Even if you\'ve never coached, but would like to learn, you are welcome.
